Group from Iraq to visit sister city, Minneapolis
A delegation of 14 people from Najaf, Iraq is arriving in Minneapolis for a two-week visit that's the first official exchange in a new sister city relationship.
The delegation arrives Saturday, and has an extensive agenda for its visit. It includes trips to the Minneapolis City Council, several local museums and a tour of notable Twin Cities sites. It's meant to be the first of many future visits between Minneapolis and Najaf.
Najaf is about 100 miles south of Baghdad. Already, a Minnesota nonprofit known as the Iraqi and American Reconciliation Project is partnering with an Iraqi nongovernmental organization to install water filration systems at important public sites in the city.
