Man shot, killed Monday in northeast Minneapolis

An adult male was shot and killed on Monday in northeast Minneapolis, bringing the city's homicide count to 15 for the year.

The shooting occurred at about 4 p.m. on Monday in the 2500 block of Marshall St. NE. The adult male victim was transferred to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he died a short time later. The victim has not yet been identified.

The homicide comes one day after Haywood J. Eaton, 18, was fatally shot in a north Minneapolis fast-food parking lot.

Minneapolis Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jesse Garcia said the shootings do not appear to be related.

Despite the two killings, the city's homicide rate this year is down 46 percent from the same period last year, and 58 percent from 2007.

"Because we've had so few, each one is magnified a little more in the community sense," Garcia said.

Police have no suspects in custody in either case.
