Rosemount High band to perform at Twins playoff game
The Rosemount High School marching band hopes to bring the luck of the Irish to the highly-anticipated Minnesota Twins playoff game this Sunday.
Steve Olson, one of the band's directors, said the students were thrilled to hear the news on Friday. "There was a lot of cheering when we let them know that we were going to do this," he said.
The Twins also allowed the 187-person band to purchase $12 tickets to the sold-out game, the third in the divisional playoff series against the New York Yankees.
Olson said he hopes the school's mascot -- the Irish -- will push the team toward victory. The marching band has performed at the 1987 and 1991 World Series, and the 2002 divisional playoffs. The Twins won every game the band played.
"We're the good luck charm for the Minnesota Twins," Olson said.
The band will perform a 12-minute show in the Metrodome's outfield, just prior to the 6:07 p.m. start time.
The Twins face an uphill battle this weekend, despite a surprising win against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday. The Yankees have the best record in the American League and they swept the season series with the Twins this year.
