MnSCU committee considers critical audit

A committee of trustees from the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system will take up a critical audit of eight colleges on Tuesday.

The Audit Committee is scheduled to review the plan for fixing several of the problems described in a report released last month by the Legislative Auditor.

The auditors reported significant internal control weaknesses in several of the colleges, particularly in the management of equipment and credit cards.

There were also problems with accounting for leave benefits and a lack of documentation for decisions about the compensation for some faculty members.

Chancellor James H. McCormick has said he'll tell all the system's presidents that they need to read the audit and learn from it.
