Marquette Avenue set to reopen in downtown Minneapolis

A major reconstruction project in downtown Minneapolis is nearing completion and will reopen Marquette Avenue to motorists and pedestrians this week.

Marquette Avenue has been under construction for more than a year as city officials transformed it into a new transitway. At a news conference today, city and transit officials will plant one of 180 new trees along the sidewalk and do final cleanup to make way for pedestrians.

Metro Transit buses won't return for several weeks. When they do, new double bus lanes will allow them to pass each other.
