Man fatally stabs mugger on Minneapolis Greenway

A man who was being mugged by two teenagers while walking on the Greenway bike and walking path in Minneapolis on Saturday pulled out a knife and fatally stabbed one of them, authorities said.

The incident happened in the early morning when the man was walking home from a friend's house near 28th Street East and Hiawatha Avenue. The man was punched in the fist and struck in the back shoulder before he saw one of the suspects getting ready to hit him, according to court documents. The man then stabbed the suspect, who has been identified as 17-year-old Timothy Jackson of Minneapolis.

Jackson was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he later died.

On Tuesday, the other suspect, 17-year-old Andre Sheldon Whirlwind Horse of Minneapolis, was charged with attempted robbery.

Whirlwind Horse told police he and Jackson had planned to go to the Greenway to find someone to beat up and rob.
