Man tries to run over student at Duluth high school

A man tried to run over a student in the parking lot of a Duluth high school Thursday morning, and nearly hit a school official while fleeing the scene, police said.

The incident took place outside Central High School, leading authorities to order a temporary school lockdown.

Duluth police officers responded to the scene while a school official tried to stop the suspect from leaving in his vehicle. The official narrowly escaped serious injury, police said.

Police located the vehicle in an alley and arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with the incident. He is being held at the St. Louis County Jail on two counts of second-degree assault and two counts of attempted second-degree murder.

School surveillance video captured a "good portion" of the incident, police said.
