Jim Leach, chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities and a former Republican congressman who represented Iowa for 30 years, speaks live at the National Press Club.

Leach was among just six Republicans to vote against the 2002 Iraq war resolution. He also broke party ranks last year to endorse Democrat Barack Obama for president. After his election, President Obama nominated Leach to head the NEH, which supports scholarship and teaching in the areas of history, literature and philosophy.
