Air quality advisory issued for Twin Cities, Rochester

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency said poor air quality in the Twin Cities and Rochester could affect some people through Tuesday.

The MPCA issued an advisory Monday afternoon, after monitors indicated elevated levels of fine particle pollution. The levels were expected to reach 97 on the Air Quality Index on Monday in the Twin Cities and Rochester. When the level is above 100, the MPCA considers the air unhealthy for sensitive groups.

People in that category include young children, people with respiratory or cardiovascular problems, the elderly and people who are physically active.

On Tuesday, officials said it's possible the air quality could be considered unhealthy for sensitive groups. Air quality levels were expected to go back to normal by Wednesday.

The MPCA said those people in sensitive groups might need to postpone or reduce vigorous activity. In addition, the MPCA encourages people to drive less, avoid burning wood and reduce energy consumption.
