Shots fired during traffic stop on I-35

An Illinois man is accused of shooting at a Minnesota state trooper during a traffic stop on the interstate in southern Minnesota Wednesday.

Steele County sheriff's officials say the trooper also fired at the man as the suspect tried to flee in a field near Hope.

The Albert Lea Tribune reports the chase began when the trooper made the stop, then called for help after the man fired gunshots and fled on Interstate 35. Officers from three other departments joined the chase.

The 31-year-old man from Moline, Ill., was taken in custody after he bolted from his car and ran into a field.
