Minn. Pearl Harbor survivor to speak at ceremony

A Minnesota survivor of the Pearl Harbor attack that drew the U.S. into World War II will speak briefly on Monday.

Ed Wentzlaff will take part in a ceremony at the state Veterans Service Building in St. Paul.

Wentzlaff was serving aboard the USS Arizona on Dec. 7, 1941, when Japan attacked the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, severely damaging or destroyed most of the U.S. fleet there. More than 2,400 Americans were killed, including 1,177 crewmen on the USS Arizona.

The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, Pearl Harbor Survivors Association and a rifle squad from Fort Snelling National Cemetery are holding the ceremony.

Flags at the Capitol and other state buildings will fly at half staff to mark the day.
