Man charged in brutal stabbing in Steele County

Steele County authorities have charged a 21-year-old man in the brutal stabbing death of his estranged girlfriend last week.

Authorities believe Ryan Stanley Hurd stabbed 19-year-old Kathryn Rose Anderson 109 times.

County Attorney Doug Ruth says Hurd and Anderson were apparently arguing while heading south on Interstate 35 last week when things turned violent.

"The defendant pulled off the road and stabbed the victim to death and left her in a ditch in rural Steele County," Ruth said.

Kathryn Rose Anderson's body was found Thursday, Dec. 3, in a roadside along a stretch of farmland in Steele County. Court documents say abrasions were found all over her legs and lower back, as if she had slid along a gravel surface. She died of multiple stab wounds and exposure.

Authorities arrested her ex-boyfriend, 21-year-old Ryan Hurd, and charged him with second-degree murder. Authorities said Hurd has confessed to killing Anderson and has been charged with second-degree murder. He was detained in his hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and will be brought to the Steele County jail to face charges.

A Dakota County judge ordered Hurd to have no contact with the Eagan woman following a domestic disturbance in October.
