A Texas company that the State of Minnesota no longer uses to verify the identities of new employees is suing the state.
Lookout Services of Bellaire, Texas, filed suit Thursday, Dec. 10, in Harris County District Court, alleging breach of contract.
Last week, MPR News reported the State of Minnesota had ordered all state agencies to stop using the service after personal data for 500 new hires was discovered unsecured on the company's Web site.
In its lawsuit, Lookout Services alleges one or more individuals wrongfully appropriated trade secrets and gained access to the confidential information of its other clients.
Lookout Services first learned of a security breach back in October.
The suit seeks unspecified damages, attorneys fees and interest.
A state official says the state won't comment on pending litigation.
