Apple Valley teen charged with killing taxi driver

A teenager who was already in jail has been charged in the stabbing death of a taxi driver.

Eighteen-year-old Abdirahman Abdiwahab Abdikarim of Apple Valley was charged Thursday with first- and second degree murder in the death of Michael Allan Palm Jr.

Palm was found dead in his taxi Aug. 1 at an Apple Valley office building. The 41-year-old suffered 30 wounds. Police found a bloody screwdriver at the scene, and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension later found Abdikarim's DNA on the handle.

Abdikarim, who has a long criminal history, has been held since Aug. 6 on unrelated crimes. Apple Valley Police Chief Scott Johnson says investigators began focusing on him from early on.

Calls to the public defenders' office, which is representing Abdikarim, were not returned.
