Charges filed in crash that killed WWII vet
A Farmington man faces charges stemming from an allegedly drunken crash that killed an 88-year-old man.
Police say 37-year-old Jeffrey Martin had his 9-year-old son in the vehicle at the time. Martin was charged Monday with felony child endangerment and two counts of driving while impaired.
If Martin's found negligent he could also be charged with criminal vehicular homicide.
A message left with the public defender's office Tuesday wasn't immediately returned.
The Christmas Eve collision killed World War II veteran Everett Letterly. His 69-year-old wife, Susan Shaffer, was in serious condition Monday.
Martin and his son were unhurt.
Police say both drivers were at fault. They say Shaffer signaled a right turn but went straight, and Martin's SUV struck her car.
