Wis. attorney general joins fight against carp

Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen is joining the effort to keep Asian carp out of the Great Lakes.

Van Hollen filed a brief with the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday supporting Michigan's request for an injunction to close a Chicago canal that connects Lake Michigan with the Mississippi River basin. The goal is to keep invasive big head and silver carp out of Lake Michigan.

Minnesota and Ohio have also filed a supportive brief.

Van Hollen says the infiltration of Asian carp into Lake Michigan could have serious adverse environmental and economic consequences to Wisconsin's waters and economy.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett sent Van Hollen a letter on Tuesday asking his office to support Michigan's effort.
