The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is urging people to use caution this weekend if they are operating snowmobiles.

DNR trail groomers have been out since last week's heavy snowfall, but officials said some trails are still in rough condition.

DNR spokeswoman Colleen Coyne said it's important that snowmobilers use common sense when they are out on trails.

"Don't drink and drive, and the second most important thing is to manage your speed, particularly around corners and around high snow banks," Coyne said.

The icy conditions can also cause hazards for snowmobiles, and not all lakes and rivers are frozen over.

Coyne recommended riders check weather reports before going out and avoid traveling across bodies of water if they are unsure about ice conditions.
