132 Amtrak riders stuck in St. Paul for weekend

Scores of Amtrak passengers are stuck in St. Paul after bad weather further west caused a backup that could take days to resolve.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that 132 passengers were delayed in St. Paul on Friday. Amtrak put them up in local hotels and gave them vouchers for a two-day stay.

They were given the choice to return to Chicago Saturday morning and seek a different westbound route, or depart from St. Paul on Monday.

Some passengers said they shouldn't have ended up stuck in Minnesota at all. One says an Amtrak agent told her the railroad knew of the impending delays but still accepted westbound passengers in Chicago.

But an Amtrak spokesman says the railroad wouldn't knowingly accept passengers traveling further west than the train could go. ---
