Minn. GM, Chrysler dealers appeal closures

Some Minnesota auto dealers that closed because of General Motors and Chrysler bankruptcies are appealing to stay in business.

The Minnesota Auto Dealers Association holds a news conference Wednesday to reveal the number of state dealers that plan to appeal their closure under a new law passed by Congress.

The American Arbitration Association says more than half of nearly 2,800 GM and Chrysler dealers nationwide are appealing to get their franchises back. They faced a Monday deadline to file for binding arbitration.

Chrysler shut down nearly 800 dealers in June and GM has told 2,000 dealers it plans to revoke their franchises in October.
