Applications up 10 percent to the University of Minnesota

The number of students applying to attend the University of Minnesota has taken a jump.

Provost Thomas Sullivan told the Board of Regents today that freshman applications at the University's campuses in the Twin Cities, Morris, Crookston, Duluth and Rochester are up more than 10 percent over last year.

"System-wide this week we have over 45,000 applications to the University of Minnesota. We have over 36,000 to the Twin Cities campus," Sullivan said.

Sullivan said that in-state student applications are up 6 percent, and non-resident applications are up 12 percent.

But all of those students won't be accepted to the University of Minnesota. In recent years, the school has limited its freshman class to about 5,000 students.
