Hann drops out of Minn. governor's race
Republican state Sen. David Hann dropped out of the race for governor Tuesday, and said he will seek re-election to the Senate.
Hann said he made the decision after a poor showing in the straw poll of caucus-goers earlier this month.
"There's no secret that to do this, you need to have financial support and you need to have delegate support. And those things are related," said Hann. "After we took a week or so to assess this, it just didn't look very likely that we would be able to make sufficient progress."
Hann said he doesn't plan to endorse anyone for governor right now. He is finishing his second term representing the Eden Prairie area. His seat is up for election on the November ballot.
Two Republicans have emerged as the leading contenders for the party's nomination -- state Reps. Tom Emmer and Marty Seifert.
Democrats have a much more crowded picture. Gov. Tim Pawlenty isn't seeking another term.
