Son charged in father's shooting death in St. Paul

An 18-year-old man was charged Tuesday in the death of his father, the Ramsey County Attorney's Office said.

Aramis Diamante-Sanitino Gaither allegedly shot his 45-year-old father, Anthony Tyrone Gaither, at their home in St. Paul on Saturday afternoon. The incident happened just after his father and mother argued and his mother asked his father to leave, according to the criminal complaint.

Anthony Gaither left the house but then returned to get his work clothes, according to the complaint. When he was approaching the house again, Aramis came out with a handgun and shot him, the complaint said.

Police found Anthony Gaither lying on the front stairs in the 1100-block of Bush Avenue with multiple gunshot wounds in his back. He was pronounced dead at Regions Hospital.

Aramis Gaither was arrested near the shooting scene. He told police he "blacked out" and shot the gun after his father told him "I want you to shoot me." Gaither also told police he was afraid his father would have taken the gun from him and shot him if he hadn't started shooting.

Aramis Gaither was to make his first court appearance Tuesday on intentional second-degree murder charges.
