Minn. diabetes walk also supports Haiti

Participants are encouraged to bring donations to support Haitians at this year's Walk to Cure Diabetes at the Mall of America.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation says an estimated 300,000 Haitians have diabetes and need diabetes supplies following the January earthquake that rocked the Caribbean nation.

Walkers are encouraged to bring donations of insulin, syringes, alcohol pads and glucose test trips to the rotunda area at Mall of America on Saturday. Donated insulin and test strips must not be past their expiration date.

More than 15,000 walkers from Minnesota, North Dakota and western Wisconsin are expected to take part in the 18th annual walk. It starts at 8 a.m.
