Suspect arrested after standoff in Shoreview

A man accused of domestic assault is in custody Monday afternoon, after a six-hour standoff ended with a SWAT team swarming a Shoreview, Minn. home.

The Ramsey County Sheriff's Office was called to the home Monday morning on a report of domestic assault. Law enforcement officials helped the female victim leave the home, but the 41-year-old alleged assaulter was uncooperative and barricaded himself inside.

The victim told sheriff's deputies that the man had guns and intended to attack police, according to the sheriff's department.

A SWAT team arrived shortly after 8 a.m. and attempted to negotiate with the man, but he refused to surrender. The SWAT team fired several rounds of tear gas into the house before entering the building at about 2 p.m. and taking the man into custody.

The man, who did not sustain any serious injuries, is being held on felony charges of making terroristic threats, pending formal charges.

Sheriff's office spokeswoman Holli Drinkwine said she doesn't know if the man had any weapons. Investigators are waiting for the tear gas to clear before they search the home.
