Man charged in assault at Burnsville youth game

A Minneapolis man is charged with assaulting a boys basketball commissioner and a parent at a tournament in Burnsville.

Forty-eight-year-old Robin Johnson faces four charges, including two assault felonies. Prosecutors say he punched Jeff Shand, director of the Burnsville Athletic program, after an overtime sixth-grade game Feb. 13.

A criminal complaint says Johnson was upset about the outcome of the game and made allegations of cheating to Shand. It says Shand asked Johnson and another man to leave because they were "causing a scene."

As Shand began to use his cell phone, the complaint says the commissioner was hit in the head by a basketball - and when he turned to look at the person who threw it, he was punched by Johnson.

Prosecutors say a parent who came to Shand's aid was either pushed or shoved by Johnson.
