3 teens rescued after canoe capsizes on Sauk River

Three teenagers have been rescued after their canoe capsized on the Sauk River in Rockville.

Stearns County deputies arrived at the scene Wednesday to find the three young men sitting on a tree in the river. The three said the fast current had pushed them into a tree, causing the canoe to overturn.

They were able to climb onto the tree, where they waited about 1½ hours until a passer-by heard them yelling for help around 1:30 p.m.

While one teen had a lifejacket on, the lifejackets of the other two had not been zipped and were swept away in the current.

The Stearns County sheriff's office says canoeing on the Sauk River is not advisable because of the strong current and cold water.
