Minn. bill aims for easier access to state Web data

A bill facing the Minnesota Legislature aims to make it easier for people get public records online.

A bill sponsored by Democratic Rep. Phyllis Kahn of Minneapolis is planned for a House committee hearing Wednesday.

It would require the state's chief information officer to develop consistent standards to access electronic records maintained by the government.

It would also appoint a Webmaster to oversee all of the state's Web sites.

Kahn says most of the state's Web sites are designed differently, causing confusion for people moving from site to site for records.
