Police searching for man after police dog stabbed

Authorities are searching by land and air for a man they say led officers on a chase Tuesday morning and stabbed a police dog.

Police say the chase began when officers attempted a traffic stop in Minneapolis shortly before 4 a.m.

Officers pursued the driver into Blaine where they were able to stop the vehicle. The suspect ran into a nearby wooded area and a woman in the vehicle was arrested. The Minneapolis police dog, Shadow, was sent into the woods to find the suspect and was stabbed at least twice.

WCCO-TV reports the dog was badly injured, but is expected to survive.
