Swanson's office reviewing legal challenge to health care law

Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson says her office is reviewing the legal issues surrounding a constitutional challenge to the new health care law.

Last week, Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty asked the attorney general's office to review the law's mandate that requires citizens to obtain health insurance. Swanson, a Democrat, said she's considering the issue.

"Not setting an artificial deadline on that," she said. "We have it under review and when we're ready with something to let you know, we'll let you know."

Fourteen attorneys general are suing the federal government alleging the mandate violates the constitution. Many legal scholars argue that the federal government can mandate insurance coverage under its power to regulate commerce.
