Vandals plug sewer line in Duluth

A creek in Duluth is contaminated after vandals plugged a sewer line with rocks and debris.

Someone apparently pried the cover off a manhole near Lake Superior College and threw in the debris.

The Western Lake Superior Sanitary District says the sewer overflow sent 21,500 gallons into Miller Creek.

A student reported the overflow Wednesday. It was repaired by 9:45 p.m.

Officials plan to make manhole covers in that area more difficult to remove.

The sanitary district is sampling Miller Creek. Several "no water contact" signs have been posted along the creek.
