Damaged river bridge near Brainerd to be replaced

The Minnesota Department of Transportation plans to replace the Highway 10 Bridge over the Mississippi River by the end of this year's construction season.

The bridge near Brainerd was closed to traffic on March 17 after it was damaged by an ice jam and high water. Emergency repair work began three days later. Traffic is now restricted to a single lane in each direction.

MnDOT bridge engineer Dan Dorgan says there have been changes in the river channel since the bridge was built in 1973, which added to the structural damage to the bridge.
