Off-duty St. Cloud cop helps family escape fire

Off-duty St. Cloud cop helps family escape fire An off-duty St. Cloud police officer helped a family escape unhurt from a fire early Sunday.

The St. Cloud Times reports Officer Matt Gannon was driving home from work at about 4:40 a.m. Sunday when he noticed flames coming from a home. He alerted the two adults and three children inside, who escaped without injury.

Leon Faust, battalion chief at the St. Cloud Fire Department, says the family has a lot to be thankful for. He says Gannon just happened to drive by at the right time.

Investigators believe the fire originated in the living room fireplace. They estimate the fire caused $65,000 in damage.
