Grand Rapids teens charged with attempted murder

Itasca County prosecutors claim a Grand Rapids teenager intended to kill another teen and burn his body because he had snitched about a fight.

Further, the prosecutors claim in charges filed Tuesday that the suspect enlisted the help of another Grand Rapids teen who he was also prepared to kill.

Prosecutors filed first- and second-degree aiding and abetting attempted murder and first- and second-degree aiding and abetting assault charges against 18-year-old Tobias Mark Lanum and 18-year-old Andrew Gary Dowling.

The charges come after an 18-year-old from Bovey was stabbed Friday in a mine pit north of Coleraine. He was stabbed eight times before being picked up by a passing car. He survived.

On Tuesday, the Duluth News Tribune reports a judge set bail for Lanum at $250,000 without conditions. Bail was set at $100,000 for Dowling.
