Minn. bill would regulate birth centers
Minnesota lawmakers are considering tighter regulations for birth centers that offer an alternative to delivering a baby in the hospital.
Rep. Maria Ruud wants to require birth centers that operate outside of hospitals to get a license from the state's Health Department. The licenses would be up for renewal every year.
Birth centers are geared toward women with low-risk pregnancies.
The House Finance Committee hears the bill from Ruud, a Democrat from Minnetonka, on Wednesday.
