Mpls. City Council to vote on additional pothole crews

The Minneapolis City Council will vote Friday on a request to speed up pothole repairs.

City public works officials are asking for an additional $500,000 to add four pothole repair crews. Mike Kennedy, director of transportation maintenance and repair for the city's public works department, said pothole repair on the city's main streets is usually finished in late summer. Then, the crews focus on side streets.

Kennedy said the additional crews will make it possible to complete repairs on side streets before winter.

Last week, Mayor R.T. Rybak announced that his revised 2010 budget will spend another half million dollars to resurface city streets.

The council will vote on the budget at the end of the month.
