Perham man on epic push scooter ride for charity

A Perham man is piloting a man-powered scooter from Moorhead to Minneapolis to raise money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Mark Schmidt left from Moorhead Thursday morning. By Friday he was in his hometown of Perham, where he told KSAX-TV that he was feeling a little stiff but no less committed to arrive at Target Field by May 1.

Schmidt is hoping to raise $6,000 to pay for a 15-year-old suffering from severe burns on a trip to Paris. Schmidt has been raising money for Make-a-Wish for four years and has contributed to helping wishes come true for 15 children.

Schmidt says he's averaging about 7 mph on his push scooter. Friends and families are taking turns driving behind him.
