Sen. Wellstone honored as part of worker memorial

Former Minnesota senator Paul Wellstone and his wife Sheila are being honored as part of a national workers' memorial in Maryland.

The memorial was dedicated Wednesday on the campus of the National Labor College, an education center for union members just outside Washington. It memorializes workers killed on the job and includes bricks inscribed with their names. The Wellstones died in a plane crash in Minnesota in 2002. Their daughter was one of the eight people killed in the crash.

Wellstone, a Democrat, served as a senator from 1991 until his death.

The bricks were purchased by the St. Paul chapter of Communications Workers of America. About 350 bricks in the memorial have names on them so far.
