Fargo man charged in schoolyard attack on teen
A Fargo man has been charged in the beating of a 15-year-old boy outside an elementary school.
Roger Hellerud was charged Thursday in Cass County District Court with conspiracy to commit aggravated assault. Bail was set at $5,000.
Court records indicate Hellerud was part of a group involved in Monday's attack outside Madison Elementary. Police say more charges could be filed in the case and teens also involved in the attack could be referred to juvenile court.
The victim's mother told police she thinks her son was targeted because he was never charged in a suspected sexual assault last year.
Hellerud's mother told police her son is mentally ill and is prone to violence unless medicated.
