Vikings stadium bill starts Minn. Capitol drive

The plan for a new Minnesota Vikings stadium is about to be put through its paces.

A Minnesota House committee was taking the first whack Tuesday at the newly released proposal. The plan relies on new hotel, car rental and memorabilia taxes for the bulk of the $791 million stadium cost. The team would be on the hook for one-third of the cost.

Top lawmakers say the bill faces significant hurdles, with the short window before final adjournment among them. The Legislature must conclude by May 17 and a stadium bill would need to move through several committees before final votes.

The Vikings proposal's first stop is the House Local Government Division.
