Flood aid available to 6 more counties, tribe

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has added another six Minnesota counties and a tribal community to a spring flooding disaster declaration.

The state Department of Public Safety said Wednesday it earlier asked FEMA to add Cottonwood, McLeod, Pennington, Ramsey, Red Lake and Stevens counties, as well as the Prairie Island Tribal Community, after an additional $3 million in costs and damages related to flooding were discovered.

The declaration means the counties and tribal community will be eligible for aid to help with emergency work and repairs, or replacement of damaged facilities.

It also provides assistance for projects that prevent or reduce risk to natural disasters or events.
