Bond set for man charged in Fairfax abduction

A conditional bond of $500,000 was set Thursday for a Marshall man accused of abducting a newspaper carrier and sexually assaulting the 14-year-old girl.

Twenty-five-year-old Matthew Thomas Fahey appeared in Renville County Court where bond was set with the conditions that he not drink alcohol or take illegal drugs and stay out of Fairfax. KMHL reports bail was set at $1 million without conditions.

Authorities say Fahey threatened to shoot the girl while she was delivering papers Tuesday morning in Fairfax, then dragged her into his car, drove her to a cemetery and sexually assaulted her before she escaped.

Fahey has requested a court-appointed attorney.
