Construction starts on St. Thomas student center

Construction will begin Tuesday on a new $66 million student center at the University of St. Thomas.

The facility will be named the Anderson Student Center, after St. Thomas trustee Lee Anderson and his wife, Penny.

University officials say the student center is the third and last phase of the largest building project in the school's history. A new athletic and recreation complex will be opening in early August, and a parking ramp opened in February 2009.

University President Dennis Dease says the student center will be a wonderful gathering place that will tie together the university's north and south campuses. The center will be at the corner of Summit and Cretin Avenues.
