Senator: Lawmakers need to devise Vikings stadium plan

DFL Senate Majority Leader Larry Pogemiller said Wednesday that the state's political leaders will need to come up with a plan for a new Vikings stadium.

A bill that relied on taxpayer funds for a new football stadium didn't survive committee hearings at the Capitol during the session.

Pogemiller said the next governor and Legislature need to pass legislation that helps the NFL team get a new stadium.

"The Vikings issue will have to be resolved next year and I believe a new governor will be willing to make those hard decisions. We'll get that done next year, I would presume," he said.

The Vikings issued a statement today saying the stadium solution has to be finalized in the 2011 session. The Vikings Metrodome lease expires at the end of the 2011 season.
