The Twin Cities airport is launching a program that guarantees travelers get parking spaces if they're willing to pay a fee. The airport has more than 22,000 spaces.
But during busy travel times, especially mid-week, travelers can't always find a space. That's especially true of the ramp for the main terminal. Now, for a $95 monthly fee, the airport will guarantee travelers a parking space at the ramp of their choice.
Patrick Hogan, an airport spokesman said there is a demand among frequent travelers who want to know that when they drive to the airport they don't have to add extra time in order to go to a different terminal and take the light rail back if the Lindbergh terminal Parking is full.
"We've had a number of people who fly frequently who have been frustrated that on midweek at times we do completely fill up the Lindbergh terminal," said Hogan.
Members of the airport's eParkElite program still pay the usual hourly and daily parking charges. But they receive a small transmitter that opens parking ramp gates. Parking is a major revenue source for the airport. It brings in about $65 million a year.
