Second person dies after I-35 pileup near Lakeville

A second person has died in a four-vehicle, interstate crash in Lakeville that involved a semi loaded with bees.

Two semitrailer trucks, including one carrying millions of bees, and two cars collided on Interstate 35 late Monday morning. The driver of one of the cars died at the scene. The driver of the other car was airlifted to a hospital and died Monday evening.

Firefighters used their fire hoses to disperse the cloud of bees hovering at the crash site.

Lakeville Fire Chief Scott Nelson says the bee swarm looked like a "black haze." Nelson and other first responders got stung.

KARE-TV reports at least one firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion. Northbound I-35 was reopened about 7 p.m. Monday. ---
