Prairie Island unit back on line

A unit at the Prairie Island nuclear power plant near Red Wing is back on line after it automatically shut down earlier this week.

Its operator, Xcel Energy, says the Unit 2 turbine shut down automatically Tuesday when a switch on a pump that provides water to its steam generators failed. The pump switch has been replaced.

The unit is expected to be back to full power in the next several days.
