Kelliher makes plea for women's vote

DFL House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher on Monday urged members of the largest women's political action committee in Minnesota to work to elect her governor.

Kelliher is the first woman in state history to win major party endorsement as a candidate for governor. Her sights are now set on trying to win the DFL primary in August, and then the general election in November. She faces Mark Dayton and Matt Entenza in the primary.

During an event in Minneapolis sponsored by the PAC Womenwinning, Kelliher explained that her teenage daughter recently pointed out the significance of the campaign.

"It's not every day that someone's mom is running for governor," Kelliher said. "Women all over this state, from my 13-year-old daughter to my 86-year-old mom recognize that this is an opportunity to make history in Minnesota."

Kelliher asked the audience of more than 1,000 women to donate at least an hour of their time to her campaign and also to show up to vote. The PAC endorsed Kelliher last September.
