3 hurt in chemical explosion in Minneapolis

One worker remains hospitalized, and two others were treated and released, following a minor explosion at a Minneapolis chemical plant this morning.

Minneapolis fire officials say three men were replacing a cap to a tank full of an acid-based chemical when the explosion occurred.

A spokesperson for Interplastics Corporation says employees reported a flash, smoke and loud bang, but no chemicals were released. Two workers were treated for second degree burns and released. A third worker was upgraded from critical to serious condition and is being held overnight for observation.

The spokesperson says the company is investigating the cause of the explosion.
