Authorities discovered the vandalism on Monday after getting a call from a concerned citizen. Many of the damaged headstones were in pieces because of their age and fragility. Work to rebuild the headstones began Tuesday.

Cemetery Sexton Mike Haben says putting a dollar figure to the damage would be difficult, since many of the markers had depreciated over the years.
