Franken and Klobuchar weigh in on Obama nominee

Both of Minnesota's U.S. Senators will take part in confirmation hearings that begin Monday over President Obama's second Supreme Court nominee.

Democrats Al Franken and Amy Klobuchar, who serve on the Senate Judiciary Committee, both supported Obama's first nominee, Sonia Sotomayor.

Both have also made positive comments about the president's latest nominee, Elena Kagan.

Klobuchar said she expects Kagan will be confirmed, and someone with Kagan's background is needed on the high court.

"This thing about her is she's a consensus builder at a time when the court is highly divided," Klobuchar said. "She has, through her tenure in government and at the law school, really been able to bring people together."

Franken noted Kagan is the first woman to be Solicitor General of the United States, and said she should be confirmed without unnecessary difficulty. Franken also said he is glad President Obama decided to nominate another woman to the Supreme Court.
